Bot not responding to prefix commands?

If Clover is completely ignoring your prefix commands (like .flags or .words), there is usually a simple configuration or permission issue blocking it.

Follow these steps to troubleshoot and fix the problem:

1. Check Channel-Specific Permissions

Even if you gave Clover permissions when inviting it to the server, those permissions might be denied in the specific channel you are typing in.

  • The Fix: Go to Edit Channel > Permissions and ensure Clover has the View Channel and Send Messages permissions enabled. Remember: Channel permissions always override server-wide permissions!
The Quick Fix

If you want to solve permission errors instantly, simply give Clover a role with the Administrator permission. This bypasses all channel restrictions and ensures the bot can read and send messages everywhere.

2. Verify Your Command Syntax

Ensure you type the command exactly as intended, without any extra or missing characters.

  • Example: .flags
  • Tip: You can always type .commands to get a full list of valid commands to make sure you are typing the right one.

3. Check for a Custom Prefix (Premium Only)

If your server is subscribed to Clover Premium, the server admins may have changed the bot's default prefix (.) to something else.

  • The Fix: Check the General Settings in the Web Dashboard to see what the active prefix is.

4. Language Mismatch

Clover commands must be typed in the same language that the bot is currently configured to use in your server. If the bot is set to Arabic, English command names will not trigger it, and vice versa.

  • The Fix: Check the bot's language settings in the Web Dashboard and make sure you are using the correct localized command names.
  • If you have a dedicated games channel for Clover, see Channel Language to configure the language for that channel.

5. Check if the Command is Disabled

Server administrators have the ability to disable specific commands inside specific channels to keep things organized.

The Fix:

  1. Log into the Clover Dashboard.
  2. Selectd the server you want to manage.
  3. Navigate to the Channels tab.
  4. Select the specific channel you are trying to play in.
  5. Verify that the command hasn't been toggled off.
